PASOK sosialist political party won the 2009 elections in Greece with almost ten percent (10%) head against ruling Conservatives party of New Democracy and also the ability to form an
independent government with majority in Greek parliament. Prime Minister and New Democracy party leader Costas Karamanlis
telephoned PASOK party leader George Papandreou on Sunday evening at
approximately 22:00 and congratulated him for his party's victory in
Sunday's snap election, while wishing him every success. Minutes before announced the forecast for the final result of 2009
national elections in Greece, as Internal affairs ministry uses a new
broadcasting system via sms technology. PASOK final result expected at 43,8% and New Democrasy at 33,9%.
Also, Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis resigned from New Democracy leadership
after the big electoral defeat with almost ten percent (10%) and main
opposition's PASOK landslide victory in Greek elections 2009. He said a
party congress will be convened in a month's time, where he will not
stand for re-election as party leader. Karamanlis, 53 years old, served
as premier since March 2004, winning general elections twice (2004 and
2007), losing once by a slim margin in April 2000 before Sunday'Αs
convincing loss. According to reports, United States President Barack Obam, Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero
also called to congratulate Papandreou, as did former Greek premier
Costas Simitis, Papandreou's predecessor at PASOK's helm.
One big exit poll released on Sunday October 4 2009, at 19:00 local
time which gives the Socialists of main opposition PASOK party a clear
lead against the ruling Conservatives party of New Democracy and the
ability to form an independent government with majority in Greek
parliament. George Papandreou president of PASOK party apparently
scored a landslide victory over Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and
the ruling New Democracy party, thus ending the latter's
five-and-a-half-year rule.
Six Greek public research companies (GΡΟ, Οpinion, Αlco, ΜΑRC,
Μetron Αnalysis και ΜRΒ-RΑSS) collaborated for one big exit poll with
almost 14.000 answers (voter'Αs sample). The error possibility is 1,5%
for the first two big parties (PASOK and ND) and 0,5% for smaller
political parties.
Exit poll results in particular: PASOK: 41% - 44% (151-159 chairs in parliament) ND: 34,3%-37,3% (94-100 chairs in parliament) ΚΚΕ: 7,3-8,3% (20-22 chairs in parliament) LAOS: 5-6% (14-16 chairs in parliament) SYRIZA: 3,9-4,9% (11-13 chairs in parliament) Ecology - Greens: 2-3% (No parliament representation)
According
to Public Issue research for SKAI TV the exit poll results are the
following: ND: 35,5%, PASOK: 41%, Greek Communist Party (KKE): 8%,
LAOS: 6% SYRIZA: 4,5%, ECOLOGY - GREENS: 3%. The latter figure for the
Ecologists-Greens would mean an all-night
"thriller" for the party to determine whether it enters Parliament.
